There are several different ways to tune Guitar. We can tune Guitar with the help of pitch pipe, electronic tuners, software’s available online. The best way to tune the Guitar is manual tuning. There is no need to depend on anything to tune a Guitar.

I agree it is a bit difficult to tune a Guitar manually however it is the best way. We need to train our ears to recognize the correct notes. Following are some steps that we need to learn how to tune Guitar manually.

  1. Tune first string to E with the help of any other instrument like synthesizer, pitch pipe. Play E note on any instrument and match the sound with the first string of Guitar. Make sure that E note on the instrument and Guitar should sound identical.
  2. Press A note on the fifth fret of first string and play 5th string openly. Match the sound of A note with the 5th string. These notes should sound identical. Now you have 1st and 5th strings tuned.
  3. Press G note on the third fret of first string and play 3rd string openly. Match the sound of G note with the third string. Now we have 1st, 5th and 3rd stings tuned.
  4. Place your finger on the second fret of the fifth string and match the note with the second string played openly. This will get us second string tuned and the note that is being played is B.
  5. Press the third fret of second string (that is D) and match the note with the fourth string played openly. This will tune the fourth string.
  6. The only string that is left is sixth string. Play sixth and the first string openly and try to match the sound. These two strings are same notes of different octaves. When these notes will be matched, we will be having our Guitar tuned.

Check the tuning of your Guitar by playing any chord. It should give us clear sound. If it is not sounding clear then please make slight movements in tuning keys to match the notes again. I would recommend you to practice tuning Guitar manually till the time you are not getting perfect in this.

There are certain things that we need to take care of while purchasing Guitar. Unlike other instruments Guitar is relatively cheap instrument. It is possible to buy any Guitar however it is far more sensible to go to a specialist stockiest.

We need to check the size of the Guitar before purchasing it. Ensure that the fret board is wide enough and body of Guitar should be full sized. If that is fit to your body structure then the most important part to consider is the “tone” of Guitar. You might have to enlist the aid of assistance here. Make sure that it produces very little buzzing sound while playing. Look at the back of the Guitar. It should be divided into two half’s to produce balanced tone.

Next thing we need to take care of is “Action”. The distance between the strings and the fret board should be up to your comfort. Press the string down to check it. Make sure that it should be comfortable to you. This is very important to check as it actually makes Guitar easy or difficult to play. It will be probably easy to play near the head of the Guitar however it is a bit difficult on the 12th fret. Make sure that the back of the fret board is flattened to play it smoothly.

Then we need to consider the technical aspects. Check the tuning keys and try to turn these keys to get the softness. Make sure that the “bridge” of the Guitar is glued properly. Move the fingers on the edges of the fret board and check that there should not be any rough surface that might cause interruption.

Remember every Guitar is different, even those of identical make. Check it up to your satisfaction. It is highly recommended to buy your first Guitar with the assistance of professional as it has a great impact on your learning.

Guitar_Scales

Today I am going to explain about the Guitar scales and I will be adding videos as well so that you can learn the finger patterns of scales also. Make sure you will practice one lesson first and then go to the next one. We can never learn music overnight. So we have to be patient in learning music.Scale is defined as the universal combination of notes. Every scale has a root note from where it starts and it ends too. We have a lot of scales in the music like (Major scales, Minor scales, Harmonic scales, Pentatonic scales, Blues scales, seventh scales and so on). We will be learning one by one and I will make sure that a day will come when you will be playing guitar amazingly.

These scales will not be Guitar specific, however we can play these scales on any instrument but notes should be the same. The style of playing these scales will be different in different kinds of music and we will learn in the coming lessons.

The names of the different notes in a specific scale are:

First note: Tonic

Second note: Supertonic

Third note: Mediant

Fourth note: Subdominant

Fifth note: Dominant

Sixth note: Submediant

Seventh note: Leading Tone

In the coming lessons we will learn how to play different scales on the Guitar. So stay in touch…

Introduction to Guitar FretHi, we went through the notes in music in the previous lesson and in this lesson I am going to throw some light on the Guitar fret with notes in music. I am referring the 6 string Guitar here. The thinnest string is the first string (#1 in picture) and sixth string is the thickest one (#6 in picture). Take a look at the picture; we have the Guitar fret and the notes written on it. I believe this will help you a lot to create the base to play guitar.

We have a standardised tuning in the Guitar. The tuning of Guitar goes like this:
E for the sixth string
A for the fifth string
D for the fourth string
G for the third string
B for the second string
e for the first string

Please refer to the picture for clarification.

That means if we don’t press any note on the 6th string and play it openly the E note will be played and the same way on the second string B note will be played and so on…

As we read about the notes in the previous lesson, the order of the notes is – A, A#/Bb, B, C, C#/Db, D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab and then A again.

On the first string (#1 in picture) e the next notes will be F, F#, G, G# and so on…

On the second string (#2 in picture) B the next notes will be C, C#, D, D# and so on…

On the third string (#3 in picture) G the next notes will be G#, A, A#, B, C and so on…

On the fourth string (#4 in picture) D the next notes will be D#, E, F, F#, G and so on…

On the fifth string (#5 in picture) A the next notes will be A#, B, C, C#, D, D# and so on…

On the sixth string (#6 in picture) E the next notes will be F, F#, G, G#, A, A# and so on…

This is how we make the block diagram of the Guitar Fret.

I know it might be confusing if you are newbie but don’t worry I am working on the free video lessons and will upload soon so stay tuned…

Notes in Music In this lesson we will go through the notes in music. If you are new to music please make sure you understand this lesson as it is the base of music. You might have to read this lessons 10 times but make sure you do understand the basics of notes in music.

So what are the Notes???
Notes are universal standardized sounds produced by playing any instrument.

There are seven notes in the music and they are represented by the first seven alphabets.

A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.

Every note has its half note except B and E. Now what is half note? The half notes are denoted by the symbols (#) sharp and (b) flat and they are called as Enharmonic notes. For example A’s half note is A# and C’s half note is C# and so on.

B#/Cb and E#/Fb don’t exist.

So the notes in the music using (#)sharp as a half note are – A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G# and the notes in the music using (b)flat as a half note are – A, Bb, B, C, Cb, D ,Db , E, F, Gb, G, Ab.

There is no difference in A# and Bb and C# and Db, as they are the different names of the same note and so on.

So the notes in the music are – A, A#/Bb, B, C, C#/Db, D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab.

There are twelve notes in music which includes half notes as well. These notes go chromatically in any musical instrument.
